Muntons, the Stowmarket based malt manufacture, were invited to speak at the Women’s Institute Annual General Meeting early in March this year, at the Trinity Park showground in Ipswich.
The AGM attracts nearly 800 WI members, representing many of their local branches. In addition to the important business aspect of the meeting, this is a good opportunity to allow guest speakers to introduce subjects which may prove interesting to the attendees.
Andy Janes, Corporate marketing manager at Muntons during his speech introduced malt, and particularly malt extract as a potential store cupboard ingredient, and outlined some of the benefits that this can bring to recipes made in the home. As he commented: “many people may have heard the word ‘malt’ but few know what it actually is and how good it is in bringing a commercial quality to home cooking.” He continued: “Malt is a natural ingredient made from barley grown locally in East Anglia, made using just water and heat. It was a delight to hear the many positive comments made by the WI members about malt.”
As an added attraction Muntons have sponsored the prize of a top-of-the-range food mixer for a competition being organised and judged by the WI head office. The winner will be announced during the forthcoming Suffolk Show.
During the course of the event, more than 300 samples of malt extract and competition entry forms were handed out for the WI members to try creating their own malt based recipes at home.
Muntons were proud to have been invited to the event and look forward to tasting the fruits of the WI member’s labours.
